Brenda, Founder of Dharma Sculpture
This magnificent Balinese Buddha statue was carved from a solid piece of wood. The muted colors of this piece are absolutely stunning.
Lord Buddha has a wonderful serene expression and a faint smile. He is depicted in sharanagamana mudra also known as the gesture of giving refuge and protection. The circle made with the fingers symbolizes the taking of refuge as the union of method and wisdom, and the three extended fingers represent the Three Jewels of the Buddha, dharma and sangha as the objects of refuge. Lord Buddha is standing atop a double lotus base and has a string of malas carved on his chest. The malas are a symbol of the never ending cycle of eternity.
The ushnisha, protuberance above his head also referred to as a topknot, symbolizes His wisdom and openness as an enlightened being. He has elongated earlobes, a vestige of his life as a prince, when he wore extravagant jewelry. He wears detailed flowing robes and a crown.
This wood sculpture is a one of a kind statue, hand carved and painted by the very talented artists of Bali, Indonesia. Every piece is truly unique!
